This is a basic summary of the module topics. These were written for my personal use to use in open-book exam. Hence great as revision notes, exam prep and when finishing assignments. Following topics are discussed:
  • Fluid Properties: Density, viscosity, pressure, surface & volume integrals
  • Fluid Statics: Hydrostatic pressure, hydraulic presses, pressure measurement
  • Fluxes: Control surfaces, control volumes, streamlines, mass, volume, momentum & energy conservation
  • Fluid force & velocity calculation
  • Pipe Systems: Flow rates, major & minor losses, pumps, turbines
  • Free Surface Flows: River flows, rapidly-varied flows around control structures (eg. weirs, sluice gates), subcritical & supercritical flow, application to bridges, weirs & sluice gates
