Supply Chain Management is said to be the management of three flows: materials, information, and money. From the earlier part of the 20th century, there have been major developments in materials management and information management in the supply chain. Two major contributors to those developments have been technological advancements and collaboration among companies. Supply chain financial management, however, is a relatively new discipline.
Discuss what is meant by supply chain financial management, and the reasons for its only recent emergence. Discuss its evolution and the role (if any) of internal and external collaboration therein. Discuss traditional approaches to supply chain financing, and compare and contrast with contemporary approaches and financial products. Discuss the role of technology in the future development of supply chain finance, and comment on the future outlook for supply chain financial management.
